I was featured on the Fiction Writing Made Easy podcast!

It’s been many months since I recorded for the podcast and a few months since it aired and I still can’t believe it happened!

What is the Fiction Writing Made Easy podcast?

Fellow Author Accelerator certified coach, Savannah Gilbo, created the Fiction Writing Made Easy podcast in 2020 and recently posted her 200th episode! Every week she provides practical tips to write, edit, and publish a novel. Her podcast has become popular among new and seasoned writers due to her knowledge, clear, and actionable guidance. While she has longer episodes many are 30 minutes or less which makes them perfect for busy writers looking for motivation and quick tips.

Why was I featured on the podcast?

I was honored to be chosen, along with four other book coaches, by Savannah to talk about mindset tips to help writers finish their first draft. So many writers find themselves frozen staring at their computer screen, finding any little distraction to avoid writing, or struggling to carve out time to write. These are the issues myself, Candace Coakley, Jenny Luke, Karla Diaz, and Sam Cameron were addressing in Episode #188 of Savannah’s podcast.

What was discussed?

I don’t want to spoil the epidote so I’ll be brief.

Candace shared a mindset shift that turns “This writing is terrible” into productive writing sessions [02:11]. Her tip is perfect for writers that are overcome by self-doubt and perfectionism.

I shared tips for carving out writing time that actually work without quitting your day job or neglecting your family [08:41]. Writers that have a lot on their schedules, young children, and writers with ADHD will benefit from this advice.

Jenny discussed why waiting to “feel inspired” is killing your novel and a counterintuitive approach that actually works [14:43]. Writers that struggle to feel creative and jump in will love her approach.

Karla shared the five simple questions that can rescue your story when you’re stuck in the dreaded middle slump [20:12]. Perfect for any writer that is lost in the messy middle and feeling unmotivated to continue.

Sam shared how strategic “neglect” might be the missing ingredient to finally type “The End” on your manuscript [27:08]. He helps you figure out how to audit how you’re spending your time and strategies for offloading tasks temporarily so that you can have more time to write.

I hope you find this episode to be helpful! Make sure to check it out wherever you listen to podcasts. Also, checkout Savannah’s blog post for Episode #188 here.
